What is web hosting?

Website hosting is [basically] the location of the files for your website. There are many types of hosting, but for most music teachers, the simplest and most affordable will suffice.

What Hosting Should I Use?

For a self hosted WordPress website, I recommend the hosting at SiteGround.

Buy as many years or months as you feel comfortable purchasing. This will keep the cost down for you over the long term.

If you want to go the DIY route, Squarespace is a very solid option. Avoid Wix and GoDaddy’s page builders.

What hosting companies should I avoid?

Avoid bluehost, hostgator, GoDaddy, and any company owned by EIG.

Oh no! I have one of these hosts, is it the end of the world?

Not at all. We can probably still make it work, but if you want to transition out to a better hosting company, I am here to help you.

I have Wix, do I need to buy hosting to switch to WordPress?

Yes, if you have a wix site and are going to make a wordpress website, you will need to purchase new hosting. Wix does not support WordPress.

I have a wordpress website made at wordpress.com, can you do a custom site there?

Custom wordpress sites are different than wordpress.com websites. You will need to purchase hosting and transition.
